To all the Moms, with Love

Here at jane we're all about the “Matriarch,” and so naturally we love Mother’s Day.

Tribute to our Matriarch

The restaurants are named after my grandmother, Jane. My grandmother was the ultimate “matriarch.” She knit our large family together through loud and delicious meals at her dining table. At her house, there was never a dull moment and always a new face around the table of some interesting character she wanted to include into her growing circle. She inspired everyone to use his or her natural born talents and to pursue education to the highest level. She empowered those she came across and was always there to give practical advice and encouragement when you needed it most. I think of her often, but especially on Mother’s Day because I am so thankful that as a child I had a strong female role model who told me I could be or do anything I set my mind to.

My grandmother Jane also impressed upon me that the way to love others is by serving them, and to invite people in that may have been overlooked. It has been an honor to work with my parents and especially my mother, Margaret. She has intentionally guided and passed down to me the knowledge she gained in culinary school along with countless lessons through hard work and experience of owning a successful restaurant for over 30 years.

As a child, I remember feeling proud of my mom because of her creativity at the restaurant, her strong work ethic, and the relationships she forged among co-workers and customers. We always ran into customers when grocery shopping or running errands and I thought she was a celebrity. Later, I learned Santa Barbara is a small town, but it still felt good knowing we had a strong connection to our local community. Now I have a daughter of my own and I hope to pass along this same spirit of hospitality, love, connection and empowerment I felt by my own grandmother & mother.

SUNDAY MAY 13th || 11am - 2:30pm || $35 per person pre set menu

Jane at the Marketplace in Goleta is offering a Special Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch on Sunday, May 13th from 11am-2:30pm. We have created a special $35 per person pre set menu in addition to our regular brunch menu to give the Mom in your life a special treat. We recommend you make a reservation if you plan to come for brunch as Mother’s Day is a busy day in the restaurant.

Menu Details:

This year we've used local and seasonal ingredients from Santa Barbara such as organic citrus. This is the inspiration behind the Blood Oranges in our Margarita, Local Pink Grapefruits in the Smoked Duck Salad, and Local Organic Arugula for the Grilled Lamb Chops with Kalamata Olive Chutney. The menu is $35 per person and includes a special cocktail, additional main course options such as Quiche Lorraine with an Organic Greens Salad, Fresh Crab Benedict and a choice of a Lemon Mousse with Vanilla Meringue, Chocolate pot de Crème, Tiramisu or a jane Sundae.
